Hello and welcome to another post on how to prevent those storms from affecting your business. If you haven’t had an opportunity yet, check out my article I wrote on creating a budget.
Today’s topic – Social Media. It is the life-blood of your business. Regardless of who you are, where you live, or age – you’re on the internet. It doesn’t matter what for, you’re on the internet. It can be to buy something off of amazon or to find a restaurant that’s local to you with good reviews.
Social media. What is it why do I need it and how do I go about creating these listings?
What is Social Media:
First off let me start by saying, that Social media is available to anyone as a tool, via the computer. There is a plethora of options to choose from and the more places you’re on, the more likely people will find you. It allows people or businesses to create, share and exchange information. Topics could be ideas, pictures/videos and common interests.
Most of the different social media platforms have some similarities, such as:
- There internet-based
- the user generates the contents
- the user can create service-specific profiles
- the user’s profile gets connected with similar people or groups.
- They offer a change in how businesses, organizations, communities and individuals communicate
- Information is readily available and it’s constant
Some examples of the social media options available to you are:
- Google My Business
And the list just goes on and on.
So now that we have covered the what, let’s talk about the Why.
Why do I need my business listed on social media anyways?
More and more people are using the Internet reaching every people group and country. While the amount of people using the Internet has increased, the time spent on social media sites is continually growing more and more popular than spending time on regular sites.
For businesses to add their information on social media sites, is increasingly important. Now more than ever before if you’re not listed, your at a large disadvantage over your competitors. It has gone from just sharing your information to one of which businesses and organizations are now creating their online brand, building their reputations and bringing career opportunities to the market place.
More and more people look to the internet to find information on social media sites for a certain business. If you’re not there, you have no chance of earning that persons business. When we are in need of information, we turn to the Internet. Usually we use Google to do our searches. We are keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Facebook is widely used by over 1 billion people a month. Everyone is on Facebook. As such, businesses can create a business page!
It doesn’t stop there – if you’re listed but have no reviews or negative reviews, and your competitor has raving reviews. Again you loose out on the customer.
Frankly put. Without social media you can pretty much assume you’re business is dead in the water.
Where do I begin?
If you want to do what I did, I found myself a company (from the internet) looked at their reviews and hired them to create my online brand. They helped me with pointers on how to get reviews and the “to-dos” It was a huge weight lifted off of my plate, as I needed to get my business listed in all these different places but didn’t have the time, know how, or desire to even do it.
There are more and more companies who will take care of this integral part of your business for you. Be careful, do your research, read reviews and make sure they do what they say they will do.
In a nut shell, here is the basics of what you will need:
- Google My Business
- Adwords campaign
- Facebook page – with paid posts
- Twitter account
- SEO – Search Engine Optimization – which helps you get found after you do all of the above.
It’s best to find a professional company that has a good reputation to help you with this laundry list of items that you need to accomplish. don’t worry, there are businesses out there. Whether you hear by word of mouth or you find them on the internet, make sure to ask them questions.
